Have just come across this site - Quite brilliant.
Brings back very many good memories of an earlier very fun time in life. Even found pictures of myself (cringe - oh what fashion huh !) within Graham Dupree's photos. Also found other friends in Pete Rodger's photos.
P.S Friends Reunited is an ace way of reconecting with old friends so do give it a try.
Seems my keyboard is playing up - hence the terrivle typos in the previous post. No, I'm not drunk!! I just can't delete!!!!
I just found a load of early Bare Facts and donated them to the arhives in the Library. Also come across a lot of other stuff from its early days. I was an editor at some time - 69 or 69 I think. Will try and find out. Lots more stuff in bocxes in my son's garage in Guildofrd. Will try and sort it out sometime. See,s yo me there should be a reunion of BF editors, starting with the first Rob Thomason.. The Wikipedia site is wrong - the early BFs were not edited by the SU Executive - anything but - we were a pain in the asre for them most of the time; got me sacked when we got a bit too critical! Well, the three court cases threatening the SU didn't help I suppose............. ;-)
Now can anyone remember why Oscar Film Unit is called Oscar? And what happened to him? No rpizes if you know. Does OFU still have it's annual dinner? That was always great fun. But then so were the early 16mm projectors in Guildford - the ones we used to show the fils in Battersea were even worse. Seem to remember we did make a film for the Guildofrd Arts Festival once. Has anyone got a copy?
And who was Death Valley Linda? And where is Death Valley? It's on vampus somewhere - was when I last looked.
Hi I'm afraid I was one of those annoying locals who crashed gigs & the union building the early seventies. Only 15/16 at the time. I was talking to friends about the free festivals & found this site.
It was the music that lured me. I remember the first festival which was held at the back of the campus. Among the bands were May Blitz, Groundhogs, & Genesis (prior to fame). Think this was 1971. In 72 I remember Third ear band, Roy Harper & the late great John Martyn. Also managed to get in to The Who gig in the small hall. Went to Guildford Tech & then became a legitimate punter. Great days. Still love progressive music. If you are interested check my Myspace music site: myspace.co./newhorizonsmusic
I feel quite emotional now having looked at the old photo's
take care

Great site and well done. A very true reflection of Surrey back then and some names that I thought I had forgoten. Oh in answer to "KUB Kitchen something" I believe it was "Kitchen Utility Breakfast room" and I remember the Baby Belling. As you rightly said it was amazing what could be cooked on them. Plus just one telephone in the KUB in third court and that was only on the internal phone network. Payphones on campus for outgoing calls.
Great site and some cool memories- thank you.
I was recently clearing the loft and found a few pics (no negs I'm afraid). Quality is variable and they range from v small prints to some quite large. I'll try to fit them into your required pixel size.
I'm still in touch with a few people and might see if they have anything they'd like to post.
Keep up the good work.
Best Regards ....Les
I have a few B&W Stag Hill Morris team photos from IVFDF. (Oxford 1980 I think)
I'm also looking for any photos of Pete Brown (Ex Stag Hill Morris) who passed away this year on Dec 4.
Looking good but couldn't find the photo I was looking for. Is it still there??? And where should I look? Found the rag week one and the 21st birthday one - can add several names if you want me to - but not able to find the one in the residence.
PS do you still live in Burgess Hill?
Hello Helen
We left Burgess Hill nearly 30 years ago. Now live in Horsham.
What photos are youn looking for? I probably have larger copies on file somewhere. And yes please do send any information, that I can add to the web site. ce@uossnaps.co.uk
Colin,
I have some photos I took at my time at UOS in 1977. Would you like me to scan them in and send you copies?
Cheers
Glynn
New photos always very welcome. It's been a while since the last update.
Please include some text explaining who, where and when.
Ideally they should be about 1200 pixels across and post them to ce@uossnaps.co.uk
Appears to be the site of the Space Centre (Building AB) looking from somewhere near where the managment school now stands, would guess is the beginning of build works for the space centre.
Colin,
On your Folk Club page where you show the BBC recording of Jasper Carrott et al; the guy in the colour photo on the right is Noel Murphy who came on stage clutching a bottle of whisky that he regularly slurped from.
John
BTW Noel Murphy was a regular on the folk circuits. I remember also at the recording that the Radio one DJ payed a jingle that was recorded by a UofS choir that advertized University Radio Surrey that went along the lines of:-
"Radio One - Station of the nation ........ etc. etc. etc. but not as good as University Radio Surrey !!! "
pity that didn't go nation wide
I went along to the 71-75 reunion last month hoping to see a few familiar faces; but no-one NO-ONE was there from Elec Eng (except for a postgrad of 1971) !!!
The only two people I recognized there was Anne Rix of Bare Facts and Ecological Warrior fame and Mel (ex Union President) and Mel didn't remember me. Definitely not a result ! Where were you all - Colin ???
Still, there were several pleasant people to chat with and |I got to see the place again
