On-Line Discussion Groups, for topics relating to : UoS-Snaps University of Surrey Graduates & stuff like that

	Please Read : This page and the board are still being refined and configured. Please be patient. The board is new and these things normally need about 200 members to work. So please register and keep checking back to see what's going on. Before you join in please read these few simple instructions: Guests :At any time you can simply go to the site and read the discussions. Some topics are not available for guests to read. Members : To post messages and access all the topics, you have to be a member. To do this you simply register. The applications are handled manually, as the board is intended to people who have been directly liked to the university. You then set up your profile (Please read the notes below) Moderators : I will be looking for a few people to act as moderators and make sure that discussions take place in the correct groups. These will have to be people who can spare time at the computer and will probably need broadband access. Groups : The initial discussion groups, are just the best topics that I could think of. Suggestions for better / new ones are welcome, but I would like to limit the number, so that they all appear on the first screen. Profiles : Once you have become a member, you will need to set up your profile. It must contain your real name and your user name must also be a name that you are commonly known by (not a silly pseudonym). Please put your real name in the signature, along with your course and graduation year (or any other connection with the university). The rest of the information is all optional. Profile Photos : It would be nice if people did put up real photo's of themselves, as they looked at university. I would like to keep them on a fast server. If you want to do this, please send me a photo, about 400 pixel square, in jpg format to : you@itisyou.co.uk The photo will then be made available at : http://www.itisyou.co.uk eMail privacy : You will be given the option of hiding your email addresses on this board. I recommend that you do. We will not pass on the addresses to anybody else. Your email address will only be used for small news 'broadcasts', no more than four times a year. (Preferably do not use 'free' email addresses, such as 'hotmail' and 'yahoo', as it may soon become necessary to reject them all as Spam.) There will also be the option to have a contact email address at 'username'@uosbb.com This can be configured to forward any mail, webmail or POP3. Status : This page will contain any reports of problems on the boards. Questions: Q1) I give in. How do I reply? A1) Some times it will not let you, if the topic is locked. Announcements will tend to be locked and also 'sticky' (they stay at the top). Q2) Did you know that boards require a huge amount of bandwidth? A2) Yes, but it should be OK. As a test configuration it's running on a low bandwidth feed. If this becomes a problem, I'll turn up the wick. Q3) What about attachments, polls and the calendar? A3) When everybody has broadband, I'll turn them on. Q4) Who do I complain to? A4) Please remember that this is not an official University of Surrey web site.
